Agincourt Shoot

Jelly Bow team 2007Fourteen of us gathered one Sunday to shoot an Agincourt. Organised by Roy Darkes , bosses and shields were set on the French side ,120 paces from the English flag. All shooting was without sights, with commands given in the form of Load, draw, shoot. The top score with an amazing 27 points was Jim Parker, followed on 20 points by John Morton.
Tilly managed, not once, but twice, to shoot the French flag. No points were awarded for this.

Coastal Archers Jelly Shoot Competition

Jelly Bow team 2007The Wellington Bowmen club took up the challenge from the Coastal Archers jelly Bow Competition. After assembly each team choose target Captains and Lieutenants, these were then issued with hats as in the photo. Each Lieutenant also had L plates to wear. All team members were required to wear something red or face loosing points before the competition even started.

The shooting distance was four dozen arrows @ 60 yards and then two dozen at 50 yards. Scoring depended entirely on what the Judge decided after all the arrows had been shot. For example: if you scored a gold worth 9 points the judge may well decided that all the 9's were worth just 1 point.

On top of all that those who scored more then 100 points had to then take the 1digit from the score and reverse the final amount. For example: A score of 104 - delete the 1 gave you 04, reverse it then gave you a score of 40 points. Proving you did not have to shoot well to win.

Three of our junior archers received certificates – well done. A raffle was organised with gifts brought by fellow archers which raised £100. This was donated to the new Children's Hospice near Bristol. We would like to thank the Coastal Archers for this superb event and rather hope the Mendip Archers will take up the challenge and host next year’s event. This will leave us to organise an event the following year.
